Shinberg.Levinas Architectural Design announces the official groundbreaking and the construction of the Bowser-Muyshondt library in San Salvador, El Salvador! The Bowser-Muyshondt Library will be 3,500 sf and aims to serve the underprivileged community of San Salvador. The public library will provide free and accessible Wifi, 30 computers, and approximately 10,000 books both physical and digital. Plans for the library also feature multipurpose rooms and public spaces for the community to host events, as we hope to make the library a cultural center for the community, fostering and facilitating STEM learning. As in all our projects, we are committed to responsible design and are acutely focused in the sustainability of this project. We are working with arborists to protect the native Ficus Microcarpas throughout the construction process. In addition, we are working with local NGOs and the city government to plant new native trees throughout the district.
We are incredibly grateful to the MCN BUILD Foundation for funding and constructing this project and also to local architect Guillermo Altamirando for his collaboration. This project will honor the Sister City agreement between D.C. and San Salvador and hopefully bring recognition and honor to the many Salvadorans working and living in the Washington area.
